Ana Cândida Ferraz’s guide to drinking wine in Manchester
About the list
In the heart of the bohemian Northern Quarter, this wine bar is for conventional wine drinkers who do not need a la-di-da environment to enjoy their wine. The team is very knowledgeable and will be there for the perfect recommendation.
Go for wine discoveries, stay for food and the tunes. Flawd is my favourite wine bar in town, with a super casual atmosphere and great hospitality. The food is a highlight, and the team puts a lot of effort into groovy playlists and records. The monthly Thursday jazz nights are a must! Check their Instagram for a schedule.
It must mean something when you choose your work place to eat and drink on days off! Nothing fits me better with an extensive natural wine list full of gems and seasonal dishes with a focus on local organic ingredients. Go for one dish or a full experience but make sure to dig into the wine list and have a wonder in the wine room/bottle shop.
When visiting Isca, it’s always worth combining the trip with the rich mix of Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines on offer in the Longsight/Levenshulme area. There you can also find the OG natural wine bar of Manchester, run by Issy Jenkins and Caroline Dubois, with delicious food and great selections of wines to drink in or take away.
From September 2025, this former fine-dining spot is turning into a more accessible set menu place and opening its kitchen counter to walk-ins thirsty for a glass of wine. The list curated by sommelier Anna Frost will definitely be worth the stop. Also, check out their wine bar, Yellowhammer, down the road!
Friendly service and good food complement the short and precise wine list with a considerable range of styles and prices. This wine bar/restaurant is the new greatest addition to the Stockport scene.
