This time it’s the turn of Sally Abé, whose “little British bistro” Teal in East London has been turning heads since opening in spring 2026, with a unique twist on traditional British recipes, like Locket’s savoury. Abé has a long CV that includes The Ledbury, The Harwood Arms and The Pem, is a published author and makes frequent appearances on British TV, on shows like Great British Menu.
Here Abé shares her advice on getting the basics right at your next dinner party.
Hi Sally, what’s your golden rule for entertaining at home?
Do as much prep as possible before your guests arrive. It means you can actually relax and enjoy the evening with everyone else.
Is there a go-to dish you always turn to for a dinner party?
Roast rib of beef with dauphinoise potatoes is my go-to. It’s always a crowd-pleaser.
What’s a dish or type of food that people might be nervous to cook at home, but is actually surprisingly straightforward?
Mussels – they can seem a little intimidating, but they’re actually really easy to cook at home and don’t take much time at all.
What’s better for a dinner party: individual portions or family-style?
Family-style, definitely. I like everyone being able to help themselves and share everything around the table.
