See a food-focused show

There is so much on at the Fringe it can be difficult to know where to start, but those who like to indulge their love of food and drink whilst having a rollicking good time at a show should head for one of The Fringe’s food-focused performances. Start with Australian singing chef Michelle Pearson’s Comfort Food Cabaret (which includes lunch) to line the stomach, before heading to The Gin Tasting Show for an evening of mother’s ruin and cabaret. Your chances of leaving hungry or sober are slim.

Get friendly at The Palmerston

One of Edinburgh’s best food-focused pubs, The Palmerston, has invited chef friends to take over its kitchen every Sunday night in August for a series of unpretentious and diverse dinners, ranging from rustic Afghan cooking to Neapolitan street food. Those cooking include local chef duos Big Dip and Arete. The menus are priced at £40 and can only be booked by contacting The Palmerston directly at hello@thepalmerstonedinburgh.co.uk.

Head to Leith for a new pizza pop-up

Away from the bustle of the Fringe, in the port of Leith, is Pala, a new pizza pop-up from the team behind much-loved local bakery Twelve Triangles and pizza chef Alessio Dossena. Open Thursday to Sunday throughout the summer, Pala brings Roman-style pizza by the slice to Leith, featuring toppings such as roast fennel and salami; potato, garlic and salsa verde; and aubergine, ricotta and tomato. Pizza-perfect.
