Street food is a great way for people to eat well and reasonably affordably, and because of all the different cultures that we have here in London, the offer is so diverse, from Lebanese to Taiwanese, Greek to barbecue. For the widest variety of different street foods, I always recommend heading to the markets – Borough Market, of course, but I also love Broadway Market and Brixton Village. Here are some of my favourite places to eat street food in London.
Forno
As a chef, you can see and taste the love and passion in something that is really well made, and you find that a lot at Forno, from their breads to their pastries [pictured top]. There’s simplicity in the things they do; they don’t overcomplicate things – a crispy choux bun with a nice custard filling is a perfect example.
Rack City Ribs
Rack City Ribs, in Camden, is American barbecue and Caribbean-influenced. I love the applewood-smoked ribs hot out of the smoker – they offer both beef and pork – with mac ‘n’ cheese on the side and cornbread to mop up the juices.
Jupiter Burger
I like Jupiter Burger at Netil Market in London Fields because they keep it simple – just cheese, onions, lettuce and tomato in the burger. If you put too much stuff in it, you lose the flavour of the beef.
